Well, the Freak Show starts today. Yes, as gung-ho Democrats gather in Denver to nominate their guy, I can't help but watch it. Like a train wreck. I've already heard fringe kooks interviewed from there via radio and TV ("the government must mandate fuel economy and hybrid cars"), and am trying hard not to roll my eyes every time I hear liberal talking points. But I'll still watch it on TV as long as I can stand it

In other news, my kids started back to school today. Finally! It seemed like this day would never come. All usual summer activities seemed to start and end early in the summer, and we were left with days and days of not much to do, which usually translated to fussing, fighting, and picking on each other. I was delirious at one point from \all the whining and giggling going on. Both kids were anxious to get started at their new schools, as grade advancement mean they each left their old school and moved onward and upward. My son is thrilled to have a locker with a combination lock on it, and is jazzed it's an upper locker. He managed to finally get it open by himself during Meet The Teacher night. And we ended up not having to change my daughter's schedule at all; they did not add the extra period as they thought they would, so all is well. She's in a group with her friends from last year, so she's happy about that.

I got back to swimming this morning. It felt good to be in the water again, just stroking. I kept picturing myself as Michael Phelps, just streaming through the water effortlessly. I met an old geezer this morning who swims 3 days a week and works out 2 days a week. He puts me to shame!, He appeared pretty fit to me, and told me I could share a lap lane with him anytime. I appreciated that, although I really dislike sharing a lane. I'm considering switching memberships and joining the Natatorium, where there are 35 or so lanes for about the same price per month. I should always be able to get a lane that way!

I'm just curious - what do you have against fuel efficient cars?

I have nothing against fuel-efficient cars. But I don't want the use of them forced upon me, the MPG government-controlledd, and the God-given American supply of oil and natural gas not tapped. I have faith in the free market system to increase the desire, demand, and availability of fuel-efficient cars, and do not want the purchase of one shoved down my throat. If I want to drive my gas-guzzler for 20 years because it's paid for, so be it. America is still a free country (we'll see if that changes after Nov. 4....)
