T minus 2 weeks

Well, my kids don't start school for another 2 weeks, so on Monday, August 25, they will be trotting off for a new school year. They are entering 7th and 5th grades, both at new schools for them.

We go in a week and a half to meet my son's 5th grade teachers and get his locker assignment, pay school fees, and so forth. He is very excited to no longer be at an elementary school, but to be at an intermediate school that has only 5th and 6th grades. I've ordered a pre-packaged school supply pack for my son from the PTA. It's around $30, and provides everything he needs except paper towels and Kleenex, to donate to the homeroom teacher's stash. Those school supply packs are worth it, because I've gone to as many as 7 different stores trying to find a black marble journal notebook before, or a certain type of glue. Forget that! It all comes in a shrink-wrapped box with his name on it!

The day before we meet my son's teachers, we go pick up my daughter's schedule, pay fees, etc. We do not meet the teachers, as she will have 8 different ones, changing class every hour. I will really have to make an effort to get to know the teachers at the middle school level, I guess. That also means we can't really buy school supplies yet, as we don't know what each teacher will require until she gets to class. I've got a few basics, or course, but that's it. Specific required oddities and specifics like a blue plastic folders or a red spiral 3-subject notebook will have to wait until school has started.

As far as school clothes go, our district does not require uniforms, but merely has a dress code, which, in my opinion, is very lax. Everyone got a few new tops and some new shorts or crop bottoms, but other than that, we've got enough clothes to get started. They are both fine on tennis shoes, and only have to wear them to school on the days they have PE; otherwise, they can wear flip-flops or crocs. (I told you the dress code was lax.) Once cool weather hits, we'll need to inventory the jeans and long pants situation and go shopping then.

So we are enjoying our last 2 weeks of summer vacation. The kids are quite bored, actually, as all summer camps and our vacation are over. It will be nice for all of us to get back into a routine.

Girl Cameron and Addison started on the 8th. So this week is their first official week. Cameron loves all of her teachers and so does Addison. Addison is majorly pumped to be out of primary and into middle school. She said they dont' treat us like babies.

Hope yall survive these last 2wks.
