...to begin running into people that I know when I go places around town. I hadn't realized it was not happening until it started to happen recently!
Most of the people are from church. We go to a huge church (2,500 in attendance at 2 services on a Sunday) and I am active there, so know quite a few people. The church draws form the surrounding towns, so the odds of running into someone I know while out and about are pretty high.
I also know other parents from my daughter's piano lessons and from my son's Cub Scout den. While my children are at either activity, we parents usually stand around chatting, getting to know one another.
My husband only recently got active in church. He's always attended, but never joined any groups, ministries or teams until recently. So he knows less people that I do. I think this is the first time that has happened in our 19 years of marriage. Usually he knows more people than me because of work and scouting. Not anymore!
I kind of like it. It's fun running into people you know. It makes me feel the world is not as huge anymore. I even run into people who have a sister or cousin who just moved up here from Baton Rouge or Lafayette, and it makes me want to talk about "home." You know, finding out what subdivision they lived in or where they went to high school. Just connecting on another level.
But, with privileges come responsibility. Knowing people most places I go means I cannot zip into Wal-mart without make-up or in my slippers. I've got a public to face!
