I haven't posted much this past week as I haven't been stopping to park my hiney in front of the computer much! My apologies to both of my loyal readers..... ;-)
I have my gastric bypass surgery tomorrow! I went yesterday for a post-op nutrition class. I swear, I heard stuff I'd never learned in my training! I can only imagine how the average Joe felt hearing all that information so quickly. I do have it all in print so we will be able to refer to it.
I'll be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks while everything heals. Nothing I have to chew, basically. Applesauce, thin mashed potatoes, thinned Cream of Wheat, Grits, or Malt o Meal, lowfat milk, fruit juices, and other liquids with no added sugar. Sugar free jello, yogurt, and puddings are also good, as are smoothies made w/ yogurt, milk, unsweetened frozen fruit, and ice. I also got some of the new Campbell's Gold Label Select soups. They have a tomato-basil, a tomato-parmesan, and a butternut squash soup that all sound great to me. I've also got sugar free V-8 Splash and regular V-8 (hold the vodka!). I think I'll have a pretty good variety to last 2 weeks, and then I will start working in soft foods like scrambled eggs, rotisserie chicken, canned veggies and fruits, boiled or baked potato, etc. Of course quantities will be small. I'll also be taking daily vitamin/mineral supplements.
I have to check in at 5:00 AM, which means leaving here around 4 AM. Ugh. Surgery is scheduled for 6 AM Thursday, and I should be coming home after lunch (such that it is) on Friday. I've got help here at the house (DH can work from home) and friends here have offered to deliver meals to us, and we've gratefully accepted their offers. I've also got food for the family in the freezer, and DH is pretty good at fending for himself. Both the kids can also cook a limited menu, so I don't think they'll starve. I think I'm about as prepared as I can be.
I'm not sure when I'll be back on my blog to give an update. I know I'll be on paid medication that causes drowsiness, so I may be asleep off and on for a week! Ha! See you soon!
