One of the best things about living in this part of the South is folks take their iced tea very seriously. As an iced tea lover, that is fine with me. Here, even the most mundane Taco Bell or mom and pop BBQ stand has real, brewed iced tea. Not that flavored instant syrup from the fountain machine, but made in a brew-and-dispense contraption, all in one. If you visit at the beginning of lunch, it is likely to still be warm, so get extra ice. I've had Tetley, Luzianne, and Lipton, and they are all great if brewed with real tea leaves.
There is nothing more refresing to me than a large glass of iced tea. I like mine sweetened with Splenda and with a bit of lemon in it. There is a place here where you can get a 32 oz. glass of real iced tea w/ a fresh lemon wedge or two and all the Splenda you want for $1.44. It comes in a reusable plastic yellow cup that is great for home use as well, and is dishwasher safe. You can't beat that deal. I'm working on a service for 8 of Dickie's BBQ cups!
To make 1 gallon of iced tea, I use 4 family-sized tea bags and brew a concentrate. Dont' squeeze the bags after brewing. It's tempting, I know, but it just makes your tea bitter. Then add ice and water to make 1 gallon. If you like it sugar-sweetened add about a cup of sugar to the warm concentrate, then add water and ice. I'm not much on kitchen gadgets that only have a single purpose (like electric can openers... not worth my counterspace). But I discovred iced tea brewed in a Mr. Coffee Iced Tea Maker and I'll give it all the counterspace it needs. Perfectly brewed iced tea every time, straight into a pitcher that can go into the fridge, too. If you like real iced tea, spend $20 and get an iced tea maker. You won't be sorry!
