I have recently discovered a fairly new line of foods called Glory. They are grown, harvested, cooked, and canned in the South. They taste like Southern home-cooking, and are a fabulous way to round out a meal with very little effort.
These canned veggies are perfectly seasoned, and can be eaten straight from the can. Well, warm them up first. But honestly, there is no need to add salt, pepper, garlic, butter, anything to make them taste good. They are great! Some canned goods say they are seasoned, but when you open them, they are clearly not. When you open a can of Glory foods, they clearly are seasoned. You can smell the seasonings!
I was skeptical, so my first foray was the Mixed Greens, a mix of turnip, mustard, and kale. I heated them up, added a little pepper-vinegar to my portion and they tasted like someone had stewed them all afternoon! Impressed, I went back for more. I tried the Snap Beans (Green Beans) and New Potatoes, which were perfectly seasoned as well. Next I tried the Black Eyes Peas as part of our New Year's Day meal. Amazing. I don't think these peas were even made from dry black eyed peas, because that imparts a musty flavor in my opinion. These did not have a musty flavor and were tender and delicious. Tonight I made Red Beans & Rice at my husband's request for supper. I opened a can of Blue Runner Cream Style Red Beans and a can of Glory New Orleans Style Red Beans and mixed them together w/ some ham slices. Delicious! The Glory beans seasoned up the Blue Runner ones nicely, as the Blue Runner usually require "doctoring." I've still got Glory's Skillet Corn (Cream Corn) in my pantry to try, but I know it will be a winner, too.
