Holly Jolly Parade
Well, the town Holly Jolly Parade was held last night, along with a slide in the (man-made) snow and Christmas tree lighting. My son was in the parade as his Cub Scout Pack had a float. It was decorated with red, white, and blue lights, a Christmas tree in RW&B lights, and US flags, and the boys were waving flags. Very cute. My son and another boy carried the Pack Sign in front of the float for a good portion of the way, then my son got to ride in the float. We walked behind the Cub Scout float with the rest of the parents. It stuck me how "small-town Americana" and family-oriented the entire event was. People in the parade waved and wished onlookers a "Merry Christmas!" Onlookers then waved and returned the greeting. School choirs sang Christmas carols in front of the Town Hall. Local churches and even day care centers had floats. Carnies were out selling anything that lit up with batteries: hats, whirlygigs, light sabers. Anyone with a classic car drove it in the parade. About the only thing missing were Shriners on tricycle motorcycles and high school marching bands. We liked to froze but had a blast anyway. I really like living up here.
