So.... we have a new President-Elect. Barack Hussein Obama, or as I like to call him, good ol' BO. He wasn't my first choice, but then again neither was his opponent. I didn't see a world of difference between the two, frankly. Did I want liberal or ultra-liberal? That was the question.
I hear people now calling for unity. What the...?! Unity my foot. There is nothing for me to unify behind. Larger taxes, destruction of industry, "skyrocketing" electric bills, reduced oil drilling, abortions, activist judges, spreading the wealth.... there is nothing for me to unify behind. Plus, I don't' remember the Democrats falling into lock-step each time George Bush or even Ronald Reagan was elected. No Democrat cried "Unity!" then. They weren't interested in unifying with Republicans. But Republicans are supposed to be happy to unify (code for cave in) behind Democrats? Not me, buddy. I'm not caving in. I'm still standing up for my principles, just as 54 million other Americans who did not cast their vote for BO stoof up for theirs.
In a way, I'm glad McCain lost. He is certainly not the poster child for conservative principles. He'd already said he would "reach across the aisles" to appoint Democrats to his cabinet and staff. WHAT?! How many Republicans did Bill Clinton appoint and offer jobs? Probably as many as BO will. But McCain was just too soft-spoken to be taken seriously. I guess when you've spent 5½ years in a concentration camp getting brutalized daily, it's hard to take threats to ideals and principles that seriously. I'm not discounting what McCain endured for his country's sake, but I'm sure he takes a different perspective than I do, having not lived through those horrors. If your body is not hurting, it will all be A-OK and work out in the end. Plus, McCain's own legislation regarding campaign finance reform shot him in the foot as he got outspent by BO 3-to-1. Oh, the irony.
And while I'm on the soapbox, can we finally agree now that a black guy is CEO of the USA, that racism is dead in America? By and large, it's over. Even though something like 98% of the black people who voted in this election voted for BO -- and frankly, I don't see how that is not racist -- BO didn't get there without the votes of millions of white people. So I think it's time to get rid of set-aside hiring and affirmative action programs. Even keeping track of peoples' race. It is of no consequence, yet it's always on a job application or school admission form. Let's let everyone stand on their own two feet, and "not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Whether black or white.
