Well, I'm trying to get back into the habit of swimming. I've ditched the water aerobics class for now. The class meets from10-11 AM, and it just screws up my whole day. Plus, the Monday class was alright, Wednesday was marginal, and Friday excellent. All 3 had different teachers. The Wednesday teacher would get int he water with you, and I couldn't' tell what sh was doing under there! She'd call one move a "jumping jack" when the other teachers would call the same move a "side kick and in" or something like that. I stayed confused. The other two teachers seemed to know what they were doing a bit more. I just got tired of it being consistently inconsistent.
So now I'm swimming laps. I drop the kids off at school, and am usually in the water by 8 AM, and out of it by 8:30 AM. No, I cannot go longer than that, and I have to remind myself that I'm no Olympian, and that swimming a lap, flipping at the end, swimming another lap, flipping at the end, and so on is just not happening for me right now. The first time I swam laps, I did 3½ and thought my lungs would explode. If I had been on the deep end I think the lifeguard would have had to save me! Every cell of my body was screaming for oxygen, and my lungs, unable to grant their wish, felt as big as marshmallows. My endurance is improving, as I can do 10 laps now. I pace myself though, and don't' get in a race with the guy in the next lane who, I swear, must do 75 laps in the time it takes me to do 10. But I'm shooting for 12 laps tomorrow.
I can feel muscles I didn't know I had in the backs of my upper legs, my stomach, and my rear. I guess that means I'm doing some sort of good. I'm enjoying the swimming, because if I'm sweating, I surely don't' realize it!
The indoor pool is glassed in on most walls, and on one wall, you can see all the workout machines and treadmills. I look over at those suckers walking and jogging to nowhere, and smirk as I swim to nowhere. At least I'm wet from relatively sanitary and chlorinated pool water rather than pure sweat! And I see many people leave full of sweat, all wet around their necks and armpits, and walk out and go get in their cars all sweaty. Ewww. How will that smell come the heat of summer?
