Cheap(er) Gasoline

Here's a way to get cheap(er) gasoline at Sam's or Walmart. I'm not sure why I never put 2 and 2 together on this before now. Maybe gasoline being over $3 a gallon and a fill-up taking $75 has something to do with it.

Walmart and Sam's give a 3 cent per gallon discount if you use their WM Credit Card to pay for gas, OR use a WM/Sam's Gift Card. I was at WM yesterday, and knew I was going to stop and get gas. So while checking out with my few items, I got a $50 WM gift card. I then drove to the pump, inserted the gift card, and the price went from $3.09/gallon to $3.06/gallon! I got all $50 worth, was nearly full, and drove away feeling so smart and witty.

So, next time you're going to both WM/Sam's AND will be getting gasoline there, buy yourself a gift card inside. Heck, you may even be able to buy a gift card at the cashier's kiosk at the gas station, for all I know. But it's a painless way to get a 3 cent/gallon discount!

That seems like a lot of work to get an extra .15 gallon of gas, or save 75 cents for a 25-gallon tank.

It's certainly not worth parking, walking inside a Sam's or WM to buy a gift card, then moving the car to the pumps to use the gift card. But if you happen to be hitting the store then the pumps (in that order), you may as well save a little ca$h. Seventy-five cents or not, it's enough to make me smile.

True! My first instance of thought was directly related to the fact that I don't shop there, so I envisioned making it a direct effort.

At my local grocery store, that I try to avoid as much as possible, you can save $.10 per gallon after getting ripped off by purchasing $50 of their mediocre-yet-highly-priced produce and packaged goods.
