Today is my mom's birthday, so to celebrate, I'm cooking her a special supper tonight. I let her pick the menu, and she chose White Beans and Rice w/ Ham and Mustard Greens. I will probably need to make a bit of Mac & Cheese as well, just to calm the masses (ie: kids). For her birthday cake, she chose Carrot Cake, her favorite. I'm making Ina's Carrot-Pineapple Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. I'll take a photo and if it's any good, I'll post the recipe adn picture tomorrow.
In other news, I think Spring is sprining here. The Bradford Pear trees all have fuzzy buds on them. I noticed a new flowering weed in my grass. And of course, the days are getting longer, slowly but surely. I'm now officially sick of winter, adn can't wait for Spring to get here. Of course Spring is one quick step to full-throttle Summer, but that's alright too. I'm tired of being cold. I'm ready to get some daylilies planted in my beds around the ho use, and need to get the pre-emergent weed treatments. This year I called the 800 number for Scott's, gave them my zip code, and got their advice on which of their products to use and when. I'm ready to start a garden and see some trees w/ leaves on them. C'mon Spring!
