Today is the 2nd day of school. The kids had a great first day. They both have classes with a few people they know, and other kids new to them. I think that's good, and more opportunity to make friends. My daughter has 3 teachers (science/social studies, language arts and math) and my son has 2 (science/math and language arts/social studies). All the teachers are young enough to still have energy and love what they're doing, not just marking time until retirement. I've decided no matter how wet the ink on their teaching certificate, a gung-ho teacher who is happy to be there is better than a bored "seasoned veteran" who has seen it all.

My daughter had a Screamer last year for one of her three teachers. You know, the ones who bellow threats to get their rooms under control. My daughter had the sense to let it roll off her back, since she was rarely, if ever, in the fray causing trouble. But I will admit, riding on the bus with that teacher last year for a field trip made more than just MY eyebrows go up. My son would not do well with a Screamer, and luckily, he hasn't had one. I'm sure it's only a matter of time, however. The funny thing is, I would probably be a Screamer if I were a teacher. But, hey, give me some credit for not choosing that profession!
